Hull's hometown news source since 1930

The HULL Times and individual contributors have won numerous awards for excellence over the years.

Since its founding as The Hull Nantasket-Times on June 26, 1930, the paper has been owned and operated by Hull residents for Hull residents. The Hull Times is one of the few independent weekly newspapers in Massachusetts that has not been gobbled up by a media conglomerate.

Hull residents Patricia Abbate and Tom Foye purchased the Hull Times in June 2019, following the retirement of longtime owner, Susan Ovans. During her 40-year tenure at the paper’s helm, Ovans served as publisher and editor. Her husband, Roger Jackson, was the paper’s business manager until his retirement several years ago.

Abbate lost her battle with pancreatic cancer in May of 2022. Her husband, Tom Foye, is now the publisher. Christopher Haraden, who has contributed to the paper since 1987, is the editor.

The fact that we live and work here, and that most of our personnel have Hull roots, means that we experience the same joys and the same challenges as our neighbors. We really are all in this together.

From town hall to local coffee shops, when Hull people refer to “the paper,” they’re talking about the Times. At all times, we strive to be an accurate and comprehensive reflection of the community we serve, in all its diversity.

We welcome our readers’ views and news, in print and online. Directions for how to submit material to us is listed under various categories on the left sidebar of this website.
